I am referring to the upgrade guide "SAP NetWeaver 2004s
Business Intelligence ABAP for IBM DB2 Universal Database for iSeries SR1 and I cannot start the upgrade assitant gui.
According to the documentation on page 65 it says to start from a browser type http://<hostname>:4239. When I do this I see the file system with parent directory and /usr/sap/<putDIR> files and nothing else.
I looked at the UaHelp.html and this conflicts with the information in the upgrade documentation and says "It is also possible to view the contents of the upgrade directory with the following URL:
It also says that "The UaGui can now be started in a browser with the following URL:
http://hostname:4239/ua/UaGui.html
but when I check there is no UaGui.html but there is a Uagui.jnlp.
When I first started the Uaserver I got the following
UaServer> Stable storage file '/usr/sap/putbwd/ua/UaState' read
UaServer> Temporary directory is '/usr/sap/putbwd/ua'
UaServer> Property file '/usr/sap/putbwd/ua/UaServer.properties' read
UaServer> Property file '/usr/sap/putbwd/ua/UaServerOS400.properties'
read
UaServer> Configuring HTTP server
UaServer> Using HTTP index file name: index.html
UaServer> Signing JAR file uagui.jar
UaServer> Creating JNLP file uagui.jnlp
UaServer> Starting HTTP server
UaServer> HTTP server started
UaServer> Ready
In the UaHelp.html a similar script (see below) and has additional lines that I do not see and a UaGui.html file is created and not a uagui.jnlp as in my case.
UaServer> Waiting for UaGuis to connect at port 4241
UaServer> UaGui applet tag file '/usr/sap/put/ua/UaGui.html' created
UaServer> Http server 'http://hw1156.wdf.sap-ag.de:4239/' started
UaServer> Switching to log file '/usr/sap/put/ua/UaServer.log'
Any assitance on this would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Steven
Hi Steven.
I just talked to one of our upgrade specialists and he recommends opening a customer message. The upgrade assistant gui works well several years now and is used inside SAP, too. So please open a customer message.
Best regards,
Jan

I managed to get the upgrade assitant working using the alternative method of runnig the java command from the Windows PC.
After the running the command below on the i-series
UASERVER DIR_PUT(<upgrade directory>)
you have to copy the uagui.jar to your PC.
Then from a command prompt enter the following:-
C:\java -cp c:\uagui.jar UaGui
The browser method still doesn't work but I will let you if I get a repsonse that is worth mentioning.
Steven - we used this during our NW2004 upgrade vs. NW2004s but perhaps you can find something of use in here to help

Hi @all
I have this problem, only when i use Internet Explorer 7. With IE6 the error doesn't appear.
Ciao
Paolo

I also saw the following error message when running http://<hostname>:4239/ in the Browser on <hostname> (Win 2k3 Server with IE 6.0 installed) :
Unable to load resource: http://<hostname>:4239/ua/uagui.jnlp
Running it from another PC on the network with Firefox solved this problem and the Upgrade Assistant GUI was started successfully.
Hi Steven,
I have given up with this "great" tool about 5 years ago ... even when it seems to run pretty fine in the meantime.
I always use the scroll mode in batch with CL-Programs as described in note 86557.
That ALWAYS works without any Java or whatever needs and is VERY stable. For entering the 24 CD mount points (a bit ugly in this method) I use CPYF with a prepared file ...
