Active Directory Registration Error: Windows Message 8202

Dear Gurus,

I'm having trouble when trying to configure active directory on:

- SAP ECC 6.0 EHP4 SR1

- Microsoft Windows Server 2008

- SQL Server 2008 Enterprise

I've followed this guide from marketplace (SAP ERP 6.0 installation: erp-inst):

Configuration Tasks for Active Directory

To enable an SAP system to use the features offered by the Active Directory, you must configure the

Active Directory so that it can store SAP system data.

To prepare the directory, you use SAPinst to automatically:

  • Extend the Active Directory schema to include the SAP-specific data types

  • Create the domain accounts required to enable the SAP system to access and modify the Active

Directory. These are the group SAP_LDAP and the user sapldap.

  • Create the root container where information related to SAP is stored

  • Control access to the container for SAP data by giving members of the SAP_LDAP group permission

to read and write to the directory

You do this by running SAPinst and choosing: <SAP System> Software Life-Cycle Options LDAP

Registration Active Directory Configuration .

The phase "Create User and Group" is completed, but in second and final phase, which is "Create ADS Schema", it returned this error: Windows system error message number "8202: The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist"

The last line in log file is this:

error [ads.vbs]

on Creating SAP ROOT - called SetInfo

GetWindowsCode 8202

I can't figure out what happened here.

Tried googling and search the forum, with no avail.

Can some gurus help me out of this?

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards,

I don't know what happened, but i'm uninstalling everything, join the domain from the start, and the problem goes away.

Hi Bobby,

Based on the 8202 error code, my guess is that you are not a member of the schema admins group in AD. Please make sure your user is in enterprise admins and schema admins.

Thanks!
