Dear All
we have installed new sap R3 CI-DB sever at VMware server.
My VMware windows 2000 server host name is <XXXXXXA>, also addtionally my server has Datalink hostname with Different IP.
fxWAM Hostname: <XXXXXXXXA>
IP : xxx.xx.xx.xx
Datalink:Hostname : <XXXXXXXXXXB>
IP : xxx.xx.xx.xx
Now clients wants to use the 2nd Datalink hostname <XXXXXXXXXXB> for Application server(DI) and CI-DB server
connection. Because datalink ip address is very fast.
Now I have to newly install the DI instance, please let me know in which below steps of Application server insallation
I have to give the Datalink:Hostname.
Central Instance Host XXXXXXXXA
Database Instance Host XXXXXXXXA
Central Transport host XXXXXXXXA
Thanks
Malai

you're aware that Windows 2000 (and other 32bit systems) are not supported under VMware for SAP application servers?

I'm not sure I understand your question. You have to enter those IPs the server belongs to, so if the CI is asked you have to give that ip, if sapinst asks for the database server you have to enter that IP...

Dear Marcus,
Sorry for confusion..Mistakenly mentioned windows 2000 server instead of windows 2003 server. please find the detailed update.
We have installed new sap R3 CI-DB sever at HostA and Addtional Dialog instance in HostB at
VMware windows 2003 R2 server.
In Windows server we have two network card installed in each server.
1st network connection below for outside end users access like GUI connect, etc
1.Network :FXWAN (142.XX.XX.XX)
Server Host name : Kccfx1 (Note: Now server Host is Kccfx1)
2.DATA_Active (172.XX.XX.XX)-> High speed internel server connection purpose.
Host Name : FFFfxx
Clients requirements:
1.Now clients wants to use the 2nd Data_active network connection for Application server(DI) and CI-DB server internel
Connectivity only
Questions:
1.How to setup the Second network <DATA_active> Connection between APP(DI) and CI-DB server.
2.Also Client wants some log files/Screenshot to confirm that Application (DI) is using the DATA_Active network to connect CI-DB server.
Thanks

Put the hostname and the IP of the high-speed network of the CI-DB in the hosts file of the application server.

You can check that using
netstat -p tcp -n
There you see the IP addresse and how they are connecting.

Dear Marcus,
Thanks for the information.
1).My existing I put host file entry in application server is like
(142.XX.XX.XX) KccfxuFF11
Starting 142* Ip is FXWAN type. and Kccfx1 is belogns to FXWANT type.
Put the hostname and the IP of the high-speed network of the CI-DB in the hosts file of the application server
Myunderstaring is like you want to put host file entry in application serer like
2)
172.XX.XX.XX u3000u3000KccfxuFF11
172* Ip is -> DATA_active ipaddress
KCCFX1 -> FXWAN network- Server Original hostname.(whereas DATA_active Host name is FFFfxx)
Do you want to put host entry in number 2) like above ?. Please correct me if I am wrong?.
Thanks
Malai

Marcus,
Thanks for your support. Still I couldnot get exact information to setup the DATA_active link connection between APPlication and CI(DB) Server.
netstat Gives the Application server ip address only.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>netstat -p tcp -n
Active Connections
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP 172.24.XXX.XX:1170 XXX.XX.XX.XX:139 TIME_WAIT
Could you plesae give me information reg this, we are waiting to start the Migration rehearsel because of this issue.
Thanks
Malai

I'm not sure I really get your problem.
You have to put the name and the IP of the network you want to use in the hosts file. So if your database server is 142.x.x.x then you have to put that addresse into your hosts file to use the fast network. If 172.x.x.x is the network interface you want to use you have to use that addresse.
