If you are using batch managed materials, and you hope to have the inspection data show up on the batch record, you must link a MIC with a general characteristic. General Characterisitics are used by the classification system, not MIC's. It is much easier to first create the general characteristic, and then when you create the MIC you can enter the general characterisitc to link it to. It will copy certain attributes from the general characteristic to the MIC. If you create them in the opposite order and try to make the link to the MIC later on, you might find problems if the settings in two are not compatible.
Only one MIC can be linked one characteristic. For this reason, it is suggestted that MIC's be created in a central or master data plant. They can be used by all plants in all plans.
