Universe Design and ECC 6.0

Dear Experts,

I have an inquiry regarding the universe design connection. Can we do a connection to ECC directly? As far as I know, if I want to access data from SAP, I need to do a connection through BW only by using SAP Client. Currently I'm using BusinessObjects Enterprise 3.1 and also SAP Integration Kit 3.1.

Can anybody tell me how possible it can be if I want to access the data directly from SAP ECC 6.0. Is there any document that I can refer too..?

Hi ,

It is not possible to directly create a universe connection on top of ECC 6.0.

For this purpose you have to use a Data Federator Infoset, SAP Query and ABAP Function Connector.

It is actually a prototype created by the Business Objects Innvoation Center.

• Data Federator is a separate BO data federation tool.

A Datafederator view is created on top of the ECC source using the connector.

We can create a universe on top of this datafederator view.
