Hi Experts,
Just flashed in my mind, why we need XI for IDOC to IDOC transfer? Can any one explain the advantages of using XI in this communication over ALE interface?
Thanks in advance.

If in the same Landscape you can go ahead for ALE communication & it is used for Master data.
When we use XI for IDOC to IDOC we can collect the it, If the target is down we can resend it from XI,If you wann to post same IDOC for couple of vendors we can XI, etc It all depends upon the requirement

Hi,
ALE is point to point integration mainly used for integrating SAP systems and capable of creating a dialogue only between a pair of systems, but SAP XI is single point integration and capable of involving many systems at the same time. ALE does not support open standards like Webservices etc.
Go through this ...
SAP Network Blog: XI or ALE....Which one is better ?

An Idoc adapter allows you to process SAP's IDocs in the XI Integration Engine.
iDocs of version 3.1x and higher are supported. And Don't make use of XI to communicate between SAP systems if there is a current IDoc scenario that will fulfill your needs. The XML overhead is not worth it. If you need to map an IDoc to a different format, such as XML or flat file then XI is a good choice.
