Dear Oracle People,
in the "Development Update December 2009" there is a u201CBig picture of supported Oracle releases" on p24.
In this picture it is described that SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 x110 will not be supported under Oracle 11.
But SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 x200 will be supported.
I do not see a substantial technical difference between these two releases. And i do net see why Extension Set 1.10 does not fulfil the requirements for Oracle 11 as described in upper paper on p12 which seem to be: having a 6.40 kernel and extended maintenance at least until 2010
Can you please explain me why 4.7x110 will not be supported under Oracle 11.
Sincerely
Stefan Dietz
Thank you for your answers and points of view. But this topic is not really solved for me. SAP shows us a recipe in sapnote #1398634 which applications are qualified for being supported under Oracle 11.
And the product SAP R/3 4.71 (in short) does not qualify although it satisfies the rules from #1398634. Interesting approach to force upgrades of a product having extended maintenance until 2013.
Sincerely, Stefan

Hello all,
First, I'd like to mention that (IMHO) this kind of questions are better answered via SAP message, as they would be able to provide the proper answer.
As I could not provide any valuable information I went to the "source" and ask for this issue. The answer is that 4.7 x110 will be "supported" with 11g.
As 4.7 x110 sits on top of WebAS 6.20, it can run the kernel 6.40. But SAP will not provide adaptation for the monitors and a direct install with Oracle 11.2 will not be possible.
The next version of the Development Update will be corrected with this information.
Hello Stefan,
You can crosscheck this with sapnote #1398634
Oracle 11.2 release for older SAP releases
A general release is not provided for earlier SAP releases (SAP R/3 3.1I up to and including SAP R/3 4.6C). Similar to Oracle Version 10.2, there will only be a temporary 11.2 release in direct connection with an SAP upgrade project for these older SAP versions.
Oracle 11.2 for SAP Kernel 6.40, 7.x and higher
Oracle Version 11.2 will be released for these SAP kernel versions. In these kernel versions, basically only those SAP product versions that will still be at least part of SAP Extended Maintenance in 2010 will be released for Oracle 11.2.
[UPDATE]
I have also checked the PAM for SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X110 and the kernel 6.40 is also supported .. really strange

Base and everything are identical, the only difference is the (ABAP) application component. Both are SAP_BASIS 620.
I may be wrong with my assumption but I know only one other customer using 4.71, all others on 4.7 I know are using 4.72.
BTW: the exact same thing can be seen here:
Note 876282 - Linux x86_64: Availability of R/3 4.7 Ext1.10, BW3.10, 6.x
4.72 is supported (by default) whereas 4.71 needs a special treatment.

Hello,
There is the following note with intructions for installing R/3 4.7 X110 on Oracle 11.2
Note 1499877 - Oracle 11.2 for R/3 Enterprise 4.7 Ext. Set 1.10

SAP just does not want to support old releases. With this decision, it forces customer to upgrade to newer version and releasing SAP to do support on old releases.
There are not other reasons than that, because technically, it would be possible to support Ora11 on 4.7x110.

I would say: too less market share (of 4.71).
Since both 4.71 and 4.72 are running out of maintenance (at the end of march) I wonder why they are certified anyway.
