Hi! My experience is that SRM technical consultants set up the system, do the configuration, communication with back-end systems, replication, HR-integration, Idocs, start background jobs etc. SRM consultants traditionally are both technical and functional consultants!
However, some companies try to separate more between traditional basis-tasks (RFC-communication, Idocs etc.,). and also authorizations, roles etc, and functional design/setup/testing.
