Hello,

We only have one solution manager and I'd like to know if I should crete three clients: one for development, one for quality and one production client.

Is this right?

Thanks and regards,

Ana.

Hi Ana,

This is entirely depends on you and what you want to do with your solman system. If you are thinking like testing the solman functionalities in one client and moving to prodcution etc, that may not be feasible all the case. Say, if you are configuring ChaRM, you need to select one client as ChaRM as client and do the config. You cannot decide on Dev ChaRM client or Prod ChaRM client.

Hope this answers you.

Ana ,

First of all , Let us know what are configuration done on your solution manager Server . What are functionality you are using with Solution manager .

In SAP practice no one suggest you to put PRD & DEV on same Server . Other side Solution manager having a lots of cross client changes also. That may impact if your work if use same server for PRD & DEV.

Thanks

You should at a bare minimum have 2 clients a Development and a Production. You will need to apply notes at certain points in time and you will want to test that they fix any problems you are having.

Also if you start creating BPMs then you will want to pilot them before creating them in Production.

For monitoring purposes your Production Client should monitor your Solman Dev system and all Production systems and your Solman Dev system should monitor Solman Prod and and the rest of the landscape to reduce the load on your Production system.

Make sure you size your Solman systems according to the amount of users and features you plan on using.

Hi Ana,

A lot of SAP Solution Manager tables are client independent. From that point it makes no sense to use several clients for development, quality and production in one system. If you really want to make development/quality and production you should have at least two SAP Solution Manager systems (development/quality) and production.

Best regards,

Veit.

Additional there can be only one BW client per system and a lot of applications use BW like SAP EarlyWatch Alert, Diagnostics, Business Process Operation, ..
