Sustainability Performance Management(SuPM) v1.0

Hi all,

I have heard that SAP has now developed an integrated application for holistically managing, not only Economical but also, Environmental and Social risks and opportunities through its Sustainability Performance Management ver 1.0. Its a Top-down approach where the CXO_level executives will be measuring, monitoring and reporting these risks and opportunities.

Can anyone share ur ideas regarding this product, along with SAP BO Xcelsius Enterprise software, SAP BO Strategy Mgt Application and SAP BO Risk Mgt. Application ?

I am interested to know more about this new product, Is it available in the market? Pls let me know if there is a demo on the same.

Hello Raghu,

SuPM detals with measurement, management and disclosure of organizational performance towards the goals of sustainable development. SuPM can be used as a stand alone or as a distributed localized application to manage company's environmental,social and economic performance. The solution is designed to be integrated with SAP and Non SAP Applications.

SuPM has two broad application categories - 1: Data Collection u2013 helps to set up the system to collect KPI data, either manual or automated, for reporting. This step consists of KPI definition, reporting framework definition, role assignment setup, conversion factors definition, automated script definition, and consolidation and adjustment 2 - End user Reporting u2013 Using which consolidation and adjustment process of data for further analysis is carried out using general reporting and dashboards, ad hoc queries, and scorecards techniques

The product is currently on a restricted release- Ramp Up. I heard SAP has couple of training sessions scheduled during March. Check with your company Account Executive for more information on this

My opinion on this product is - SuPM is a user friendly and has necessary tools which will help to report on compliance with regulatory agencies and inform shareholders, It has built in Core and additional KPI content which will help in rapid calculation of KPI, The KPI data is certified for GRI Software and Tools Programs u2013 so you can be assured that the content is applied properly, it has scalability for more reporting frameworks. Software comes with predefined import templates which will reduce the data import effort. Along with SAP Carbon Impact u2013 SuPM would be able to deliver enhanced analysis ability for benchmarking and tracking the progress. The Briefing book Veiwer is a very good presentation tool for CxO level executives.

SuPM is used for reporting on the Triple bottom lines.

1. Organizations who are already into reporting , (say from 2006) now plan to go for the new product SAP BO SuPM v1.0. But, how will those reports which were already been published and audited will be maintained in this new application. Every organization will have their own templates of reporting and their own KPIs. How will this issue be addressed?

2. SuPM says it will comply with Govt. regulations. How will this address for different Organizations with different Regulations?

You wanted some insight into some diverse products? Let see if I can give you a brief explanation:

[Sustainability Performance Management |http://www.sap.com/solutions/executiveview/sustainability/sustainability-performance/index.epx]is a new product that is currently in Ramp Up. It leverages SAP BW for pulling in data, although you can connect to other applications as well. SuPM includes around 400 KPIs based on the Global Reporting Initiative as well as the Walmart Sustainability Index to get you started and you can add your own measures too.

Xcelsius is an application used for creating dashboards. You can make some pretty amazing dashboards with interactive dials and charts. Xcelsius would pull its data from other applications.

The Risk Management application help you understand the relationship between business risk and your corporate strategy so you can make better-informed decisions.

Strategy Management takes the larger view of aligning what the goals and objectives of the organization are with what is actually getting done. Strategy Management brings together all the pieces of the puzzle so an organization can be working to move toward their objectives in a unified fashion.

Sustainability covers the area of interest by companies in social and environmental responsibilities. While it has some seemingly similar functionality with Risk, Strategy, and Xcelsius, it doesn't replace those. Just as those other applications won't cover Sustainability like SuPM does.

You can use all of these applications in combination to get the full value of Enterprise Performance Management, Governance, Risk, and Compliance, and Business Intelligence.

If you have a specific, current need, for Sustainability, you should probably talk with your SAP rep about what could be the best short-term application approach and long-term suite solution. That rep can also schedule a demonstration if you want to see it.

Ramp Up training for Sustainability has begun. You would need to be accepted into the Sustainability Ramp Up program to be able to take these courses. If you are a partner, contact your SAP partner rep to find out how to become a Ramp Up partner.

There are two types of reporting one based on GRI standards and the other based non GRI based

Even if organizations calculate performance in past, they must have used a standard procedure and guidelines to calculate the perspectives and related KPIs like GRI G3. In that context it is possible to map the data back into SuPM existing library of KPIs and corresponding values.

if the KPI data is not the default core or additional content, you can create them in the system based on customer requirements.

For reporting purposes - there are standard guidelines and templates available which can be used for reporting, Even if organizations use their own templates - it is preferable to generate reports in recommended templates. If its a new type it can be adapted in SuPM.

2. SuPM says it will comply with Govt. regulations. How will this address for different Organizations with different Regulations?

I am not aware of this information. However I understand it is based on Alerts and Notifications- where you can set Alerts and track the progress against the conditions like percentage, target or value.

Sustainability performance management is now GA. It solves a wider problem of metrics and analysis to determine how a company is doing from a long term sustainability stand point. Lot of CEOs have a vision to get this going and they are calling themselves as Chief Sustainability Officer.

SAP SO SM and SAP BO PC/RM can be integrated with SUPM using the BW base.From SUPM data can be pushed to BW system and SM application can use the SUPM KPI's.

Similary the Risks can be captured from SAP BO PC/RM application and integrated to SUPM application using BW base.

For reporting SAP BO xcelcius can access the BW queries which can pull data from SUPM system and show in the report.
