Hi,

While taking Offline+redolog backup through DB13 scheduled @midnight, database was not shutdown.DB was not allowing either to shutdown or startup,it was in hanged stage.Hence manually shutdown the server next morning.

We have Production on Oracle 9 + UX 11 + cluster.

In DB13 it showed loggs as

BR0198I Profiles saved successfully

BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2010-01-30 00.01.24

BR0307I Shutting down database instance P3P ...

BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2010-01-30 13.04.58

BR0308I Shutdown of database instance P3P successful

Kindly help me to identify and resolve issue.

Regards,

Sam

hi,

thx Mark..

I have queries

1. why it was not allowing me to shutdown or startup database if it was properly shutdown in midnight

2. offline backup started after we manually halted the server.

3. It wasn't happned before. After 2 days offline backup was succesful.Same configuration of kernel and patch is maintained in DEV and QAS,but their offline backup newer failed in this manner.

thx for help.

Hi,

Please refer this [SAP Note 521264 - Hang situations|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/521264] to get more information about the possible causes which lead to Oracle DB Hang up situation.

What your OS System Log is telling ?

Apply latest Oracle 9 Patches corresponding to your OS.
