Can a legacy application (Flat File)replace with service(SOA)?

Hello All,

I am in a situation where I need to integrate SAP ECC with a legacy application (Flat File)... when it comes to webservices SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) concept.. Is there any thing we can change this scenario of transfering Flat file in to a web service?

Where do web service come in to picture?? when do we come accross of talking services??? I am working with SAP PI from 4 years and I never did a scenario of exchanging services..... Yeah I have did proxy at ECC side... but not complete webservices exchange... Can any one point me to a link where I can have step by step end to end scneario of services exchange?

the article talks about service enabling a legacy app. But for me service enabling a file system doesnt make any sense. It would rather be a SOA compliant system that would be ideal to service enable
