After kernel upgrade SAP start fails:could not open the ICU library

Hello,

After ECC 6.0 kernel upgrade to patch level 236 ,the SAP instance start is failing,giving following error.

Starting SAP Instance DVEBMGS00

Could not open the ICU common library.

The following files must be in the path described by

the environment variable "LIBPATH":

libicuuc30.a, libicudata30.a, libicui18n30.a http://nlsui0_mt.c 1557 pid = 594050

Startup of Instance Service failed

Although these files exist in /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run as per LIBPATH of sidadm.Even after going back to previous version of kernel its giving same error.

Its ECC 6 on AIX 5300-05,oracle 10.2

Please reply ASAP.

Can you please check environment variable & please give us some more information,paste here error part from dev_w0 & also

output of trans -d.

login as sidadm & give the command trans -d & give the command ls , than you find trans.log file. Please paste the logs here.

Execute slibclean and do the kernel upgrade again.

R3trans -x is also successful and there is no update in Developer trace files ,ie dev_disp,dev_ms and dev_w0.only dev_tp is getting created.

Even OS reboot hasn't solve the problem

do the icu files exist on your new kernel? check that they exist on /sapmnt/<SID>/exe... you can either move them from the old kernel or download them from SMP

Yes all three files mentioned are there in the /sapmnt/SID/exe

Yes ,the note is not applicable as AIX level is higher .AIX 5300-05,the mentiones fix is already applied.

Revert back to old Kernel and see if system comes up.

If it comes up, you might want to download Kenel files again and try.

Yesterday I reverted the Kernel and it was successful,but today after fresh kernel upgrade its giving same error after reverting to old status.

Whys its giving error for old kernel also ,not understandable??

Hi Gaurav,

What i can suggest you is kindly check the note 927432 once again because you are facing the exact problem which is mentioned in that note else ask SAP about this issue they can help you out.

The issue is solved.

SAPCPE was unable to copy those 3 files in /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS00/exe ,I manually copied those files and started the instance.

Good, remember that in order for sapcpe to distribute the files it should be dropped in the right location in this case /sapmnt/<SID>/exe

Checked both notes,

The AIX fix is already installed.Even the strange thing is that even reverting the Kernel getting the same error.

Still searching for the solution/
