Link between MPOS & MPOS Infocube

Former Member

Dear All,

1. For the Master Planning Object Structure (MPOS) created in /SAPAPO/MSDP_ADMIN, there is an infocube under the unassigned node in RSA1 under infoprovider.

Why is it so / rather why technically it is like that?

2. If this is the case, while configuring the system wouldn't it be easier to create an infocube here & use that as MPOS. Is this possible?

Would appreciate if anyone DP / BW gurus can shed some light in the area.

Regards

Hi,

It is a standard functionality that whenever you create a MPOS then an infocube with same name is generated within the unassigned notes in administrator workbench. This primary purpose is for the storage of characterstics data of the MPOS. Technically also it is required as MPOS is independent object when it comes to Characterstics only and hence needs to have an independent storage.

Regarding your other query, The other way round from making Infocube to creating MPOS is not possible. infact if you have an Infocube with same name , APO would not allow you to create the MPOS with same name.

Let me know if it helps.

Thanks Gaurav

1. Can the infocube thus generated be used as a standard infocube like other infocubes?

2. Can it be tweaked? using transfer-communication structures & update from this cube back to the MPOS

From this we understand that the data flow is from MPOS to infocube. Is the data flow two way also?

The MPOS Infocube is generated when you create the MPOS and Activate it (status bar shows DDIC objects being generated / activated). If you look at the Infocube details in RSA1 then you will notice keyfigure is 9APLOBJ Planning Object - GUID and the Time Characteristic is 0CALDAY. These two settings are allways the same irrespective of the DP MPOS created. The only difference is the characteristics assigned to the MPOS get assigned in the InfoCube.

To start with the MPOS Infocube has no content. As you create CVCs the MPOS Infocube gets filled up with the characteristic values and a system generated GUID for the only keyfigure Planning Object - GUID.

Now to answer your queries.

1. Can the infocube thus generated be used as a standard infocube like other infocubes?

No this generated infocube cannot be used for anything else.

2. Can it be tweaked? using transfer-communication structures & update from this cube back to the MPOS

From this we understand that the data flow is from MPOS to infocube. Is the data flow two way also?

Technically not sure if you can build transfer-communication structure on this. Without it its not possible to add data directly to the MPOS Infocube. Remember MPOS is kind of a data structure whereas the CVCs are actually stored in the corresponding MPOS Infocube. When in /SAPAPO/MC62 you generate/delete CVCs for a particular MPOS it populates the MPOS Infocube only.

Hope this helps.
