How does high level item category work (HLevltCa)

Hi Experts,

I would like to know how does high level item category work in the following example

I have a sales order BOM

1) Already maintained MM02 as itemcategory = ERLA

2) Maintained in CS01

Now in IMG

SD->sales->sales doc->item category->assignitemcategory

The standard templates preset are

ORD TYP ITEMCATGRP USAGE HLEVLTCA DFLTC

OR ERLA TAQ

OR ERLA TAP TAE

OR ERLA TAQ TAE

I was wondering system how to determine whether will take either

OR ERLA TAP TAE

or

OR ERLA TAQ TAE

where do we to control or configure (to assign) the HLevltCa. We want system to take HLevltCa ->TAP or TAQ?

IF I WANT TO TAKE THE OR-ERLA-TAQ-TAE, how to configure and where to configure to ask the system to fetch the value?

Hi,

For all your materials you have assigned ERLA as the item category group.right?

In that case initially for the first item the item category will be taken as "TAQ".

It comes from

ORD ITEMCATGRP USAGE HLEVLTCA DFLTC

OR ERLA - - TAQ

Now the higher level item has item category as "TAQ".So for the subsequent sub items the item category will be defaulted as "TAE".

It comes from

ORD TYP ITEMCATGRP USAGE HLEVLTCA DFLTC

OR ERLA - TAQ TAE

It ignores

OR ERLA - TAP TAE as there is no parent item with item category as "TAP".
