Dear Friends,

Could you please what is downtime minimized and is it really helpfull to upgrade sps on production server with downtime minimized settings.

I have upgrade sps on dev and qty systems but we are getting downtime on prd so we are planning to upgrade support packages with down time minimized settings without afftecting functionality.

Thanks in advance.

My recommendation would be if you have not used downtime minimized when you were patching Dev and QA do not use that in Prod. Its is a good practice to upgarde Production the same way you did your Dev and QA servers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi,

Check below link to understand what is downtime minimize upgrade:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/08/5741c24ae611d1894f0000e829fbbd/content.htm

Also, Are you applying support packages or doing release upgrade ?

If you are applying SP's then from SPAM level 35 this downtime minimize settings are available.

Thanks

Hi,

Please refer this useful[ SAP Note 744343 - Tips for importing Support Packages with minimized downtime|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/744343] to get more information.

It is a Special import procedure for importing Support Packages with Inactive Import Mode while production hours to reduce long downtime for the same.

If you import Support Package, without selecting this special import mode, the end users should not work in the system during this time. Otherwise they would recognize short dumps and sometime it may lead to Data inconsistency.

But, with the selection of "Import Mode: Downtime-minimized" during import, one can import the support packages while production Window ,because the new/changed contents of Support Package will be imported into database with INACTIVE status parallel to the ACTIVE contents of the existing Database, and this will not affect the User's functions during the Production window.
