Dear Sam,
Basically, the system determines the maximum weight from the "Allowed pkg weight" field in the packaging material's master, view "Sales: General/Plant" (MARA-ERGEW). If your company uses packing instructions, you could indeed maintain deviant maximum weight information therein. It has priority over the data maintained on master data level.
