In SM14 under the TAB Server groups, how does SAP use this information with regrads to updates?

We have 18 servers, one of which is the DIA UPD ENQ BTC SPO ther rest are DIA UPD BTS and UP2. 8 servers including the one with the ENQ are listed in a Server group and 10 application servers are not assigned.

How does and will SAP use this configuration for updates and other reasons?

the purpose of update groups is described in [SAP documentation|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e5/de872335cd11d3acb00000e83539c3/frameset.htm] which can be easily searched using search box on SDN (top right corner).
