SHAREDSQL = YES or NO ?

Hi,

On our systems running MaxDB 7.6.06.006 64bit using ERP6.0 we have SHAREDSQL set to YES.

If I read Note 814704 - MaxDB Version 7.6 parameter settings for OLTP/BW, at the end of point 19 on SHAREDSQL it states "As of MaxDB Version 7.6.06.02, you should reactivate SHAREDSQL (=YES)." ...Now I'm not sure whether this statement only applies to the BW paragraph before it or not as the formatting in the note is confusing.

In our last EarlyWatch Check it was recommended that we should have SHAREDSQL set to NO.

So which is it, YES or NO ?

Thanks.

Regards,

Nelis

I just realized 7.6.06.02 is newer than 7.6.06.006 after sending my question

Can someone just confirm then that it should be enabled.

Thanks.

Hi,

As per as[ this link|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/MaxDB/SAPMaxDBParameter+Recommendations],

If one of the following problems occurs, set the parameter SHAREDSQL to value NO:

  • error -9 or -8 occur frequently

  • error "AK Catalog information not found" occurs for a SELECT command with UNION

  • messages in knldiag: SharedSQ + Out of Memory,MEMREQUEST=xxx

A memory bottleneck occurs, which may result in a database crash.

If memory bottlenecks occur on your 32-bit platform, you should avoid using SharedSQL (SHAREDSQL=NO).

You can perform automatic check for the current configuration of your MaxDB Instance corresponds to the current SAP recommendations by following [SAP Note 1111426 - Parameter check for liveCache/MaxDB instances |https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap%28bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==%29/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1111426]

Didn't know about that tool to check parameters, thanks. Will give that a go.
