Looking at the data dictionary for REGUD-SWNES, it's described as "Net Amount in Local Currency with Protective Asterisks" i.e. the "*" are there to prevent the recipient of the cheque changing the amount on the printed output. The field before this in the REGUD structure is SWNET which is described as "Net Amount in Foreign Currency with +/- Signs" so I suspect if you change your SAPScript to reference $&REGUD-SWNET& you may well get the result you want - however there may be a business risk if the "protective" asterisks are not printed on the physical cheque.
