Hi,
We are considering the option to move to SAP PI 7.1 from XI 3.0.
I would like to have you views on pro's and con's of going for upgrade Vs New installation/phase out.
I have already referred all the documents available on SDN like PAM, decision factors and all..
Please supply the inputs based on your exp with a similar activity.
Rgds,
Jaya

Jaya,
PI 7.1 is very different from XI3.0 technically and functionally.
The challenges include:
-->SAP PI 7.1 can only be installed on 64-bit operating system
-->PI 7.1 is the only available product on release 7.1 so every PI7.1 instance should have a seperate server and support approach.
Upgrade
+You dont have to build the XI objects from scratch
- The approach is much more complex.
Fresh installation:
+ The approach is easier and you can get rid of you old/legacy issues
+ Design objects using the advanced features of PI7.1
- You would not access to your old messages.

Hi,
upgradation from XI3.0 to PI7.0 very smooth process, but coming to XI 3.0 to 7.1 its not(my opinion/experice).hardware configuration to run 7.1 not same as XI3.0.
New installtion helpfull in this case only.but in your case upgrade usefull becuase you already have XI3.0 objects, most of clinte prefer upgrade, even we had upgraded.
Regards,
Raj
