install nw2004s error at step start instance

Former Member
0 Kudos

hi experts

i am tring to install nw2004s (BW)in my server. it is windows2003 64 platform database is oracle 10. before the step 28 of 50, all installation was going smoothly. however ,at the step 28 , "start instance" ,it just throw an error saying that start instance failed, waiting for 10 min ,sapinst give up,

i check in mmc tools, i found that the instance is display yellow traffic light which is because the dispatch process is not runing. and the other two processes like msg services are green light.

so now ,i am confused about this situation ,what possibly reasons would like to cause that .and what should i do to let my installation go on.

thanks

hi all

the problem that dispatcher stoped has been handled. it is because of no more RAM to allocate.I changed the parameter em/initial_size_MB to 4000Mb .green light come out.

however, as the installation go to subsequent steps ,another problem appeared at step check DDIC password. we could make sure that the instance has been started. then how to check DDIC user and its password and let the installation go on

plz tell me from where you edit that parameter to 4000MB

Former Member

Hi

i change that parameter in the profile ,the file at \usr\sap\<SID>\sys\profile

if you find no that parameter ,just add it.then restart instance from MMC manualy.

that's all what i do. hope that could help you too.

Hi,

It is because your 000 and 001 client have different DDIC password..

Do the system copy from 000 to 001 with SAP_CUST and user master from 000.

It will also solve your many other installation problems.

Hi,

Changing parameter value and restarting SAP Instance helped me in the same scenario which I was facing in SAP Patch Upgrade for SAP SOLMAN in START_SHDI_FIRST phase.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Ying,

Try starting the instance from MMC and then continue the installation.

If you are unable to start the instance, then reboot the server once, then start the instance in MMC and then continue the installation. Looks like the shared memory is not getting released.

Cheers.....,

Raghu

Hi,

Check your host file entries......Also check the network settings whether they are proper according to sap installation guide.....

Are all the pre-requisites met as per the installation guide?

Cheers....,

Raghu
