Fully qualified hostnames longer than 31 characters allowed

Is there a restriction during the installation of hostnames longer than 31 chars in general.

We installed MDM and get error messages because of the length of the hostname.

Since the SAPInst is not MDM related I would like to know if there is such a restriction in general.

Also check for release 700 SP<21 maximum length of profile file is limited to 60 characters. I have faced this problem. Check following note for detailed info.

Already checked. The note only talks about the hostname (at most 12 characters), but not about the total length.

So I am searching for a note which explains possible restrictions for total lengths.
