2 Webdispatchers same host same port 443

Is it possible to 2 Webdispatcher instances on the same unix host both being able to respond to their own requests on the sap port either 80 or 443?

I am having trouble having 2 WDs workong on the same port, but normal netweaver aka ECC6 can both listen on the same port (8000) with the host= option set.

is it possible to have WD do this (noting the port in question is 443 or 80 so I had to set the EXTBIND option).

Thanks

Tony

Hi,

Did you installed webdispatchers on a single host with comman hostname or with virutal hostname.

    • 2 different application on single host with same port number in following cases.

1. There should be 2 ip address mapped on single host ( This can be done by you system team )

2. Both the webdispatcher should be installed with 2 different virutal hostname

( every virtual hostname is bind on different ip )

Port depend upon ip address ., it mean port 443 can run on differently on both the ip address .

Any query .. pls reply

Thanks

So both replies are on virtualisation..

Can someone point me to some documentation?

Hi Tony,

Virtualization is very wide topic. I feel you should consult your OS vendor.

Hi Tony,

Its not possible to run two WDs on the same port i.e either 80 or 443.

Instead you can run multiple WDs on different ports such as 1443,2443 etc....

You will get a segmentation error if you try to run two WDs on the same port.

I am disappointed by your answer (not saying your wrong) just disappointed.

Why can't WD do what normal netweaver do? Is it belcase Extbind= is conflighting with host= and forcing a lock on 80 or 443?

Hi Tony,

Even i was a disappointed when i actually tried to do it.

Yes....It forces a lock on the particular port.....and it is practical too.....

Well...one option you can run on different ports...and the other would be to use virtualization.

One question : Even though you run two WDs on the same port ( by some means), what is that you are going to achieve with that....How do you route the requests ?

You can probably check some other options such as a hardware load balancer because WD does not have full reverse proxy capabilities.

its for a prototype/demo system. But when on a customer site you can only gurrantee ports 80 and 443 to be open through their firewall/proxies.

Hence the restriction on ports.

Hi Tony,

You are absolutely correct. The proxy port restriction is always there.

So...check the virtualization or you have to use two different servers.
