Class type vs Char profiles

Hello All,

We have a requirement to create set of attributes common to all the articles in the system. Each attribute has certain values and the user can select any value while creating an article. Is creating a class type with characteristics and values and assigning it to merchandise category the best option or creating a characteristics profile which has all the characteristics and values and assigning to merch. category better? why exactly a characteristic profile is used? I realised that when i created a char. profile it automatically mentioned that class type '026' was assigned. What does that mean?

Regards,

Aditi.

Hi

Class is a group of similar objects described by means of characteristics that

they have in common.

Class type - Each class must be assigned to exactly one class type.

There is no connection between the individual class

types.

The class type is used to define a number of parameters,

such as:

o The objects that can be classified in a class

o Whether objects of different object types can be

classified in the same class

o Whether an object can be classified in more than one

class of the same class type

o The class maintenance screens that can be processed

026 is use for creating generic artilces

010 is vendors, 011 customer class

If you want create site group(store grouping) 033, like each class type has their own usage

Hi,

Characteristic Profile, is also a class.

For your requirement, i would suggest either of the two.

1. Create Characteristic profile and assign Characteristics. Assign the Characteristic profile to MC/MCH. Select the Characteristic profile while creating article.

2. Assign the Characteristics directly to MC/MCH.

Method 2 has an advantage that even if you have not selected the Characteristic profile at the time of article creation, you can still use the Characteristics at a later stage.

Hi Aditi,

Adding to what Barry has mentioned above, using characteristic profile makes sense if you use different sets of characteristing for articles within a Merch. Category. In which case you can define each set of characteristics using a characteristic profile. attach all the profiles to the same merch category. And choose which set is to be used at the time of the creation of the article.

So you can have Article A1 with characteristic Colour and A2 with characteristic Size within the same Category instead of having both A1 and A2 with Colour and Size.

Hope that helps.

To add more on Class and Class Type..

Class is an group of similar objects with common characteristics. For example : class for Retail Goods, Textile or Mensware etc etc.

The class type is a class that has been subdivided according to various objects and organizational areas. In the classes that belong to a class type, there are only objects of one type, for example, sites.

The class type controls, among other things, whether multiple assignments of a site or site groups respectively to other groups are allowed or not.

A class type is specified for each application, and in the classification system there is a certain article or site grouping behind each class type. This setting specifies which class types are actually used, for example, by an application running on site groups.

Example:

The allocation table can use site groups. In this case, these site groups group sites, for which supply is to be guaranteed, into one group. The allocation table then uses such class types that are assigned to the application "3 Promotion and Allocation Table".

The site groups of the relevant class types in the classification system must be maintained as a prerequisite for this.
