How many snapshots are possible for Oracle?

Some DB allows only one snapshot-- any newer snapshot will overwrite the old one. Is this true for Oracle as well?

Is incarnation another name of snapshot?

Thanks!

Nope - an incarnation for Oracle is basically a specific version of the database with respect to the redolog sequences.

When you open the database with the RESETLOGS option, the incarnation changes.

Concerning the SNAPSHOT... what exact feature of Oracle you're referring here to?

FLASH RECOVERY AREA?

Please be more specific with your question!

Also: what other databases/features to you compare here?

I compare with MAXDB.

The snapshot is for flash recovery but can be other things that I am not aware of.

Thanks!

Ok, in that case: the current MaxDB versions (<= 7.7) do support multiple snapshots that can be created online.

With Oracle 10g I'm not aware of a similar functionality.

Flash recovery really is just a one-stop-restore option.
