Hi,
I have installed SAPDB 7.3.00.35 on Windows 2003 server 64-bit and then performed DB Copy from the source SAPDB 7.3.00.35 (on Windows 2000 server).. The Database is now online.
I'm now trying to upgrade this SAPDB 7.3.00.35 on Windows 2003 server 64-bit to MAXDB 7.6.03.009. Have reviewed SAP note 793550, mentioned that SAP supports direct upgrade from 7.3.00 to 7.6.00 as of Version 7.6.00.12.
As on upgrade manual, when running:
DBUPDATE.BAT u2013d SDB -u superdba,admin -dir C:\Temp
getting following error:
"beginning to check sap db instances, cannot find db instance - there are no valid independent data path, MaxDB instance update exited abnormally"
Checking on directory C:\Temp\ only creating file: instroot.bat, lc_wtest.bat, adatmp1, and adatmp.
If running command "dbmcli inst_enum" getting result:
OK
7.3.0.35 c:\sapdb\sdb\db
command "dbmcli db_enum" getting result:
OK
SDB C:\SAPDB\SDB\DB 7.3.0.0 fast running
command "dbmcli -s -d SDB -u control,control param_directget kernelversion" getting result:
OK
KERNELVERSION KERNEL 7.3.0 BUILD 035-000-090-084
What is the problem exactly?
Thanks and regards,
Hery
Hello ,
as you can see 7.6 32bit upgrade CDs do not work on x64 OS, I guess you were not supposed to install
install 7.3 32bit there as well. Only the 7.3 CD does not contain the check as it is quite old.
loosk like you will have to run upgrade 7.3 32bit -> 7.6 32bit on your source system , then install 7.6 64 bit version in your new server and do backup/restore

Ivan

Hi Natalia,
Thanks for your explanation.
The project is to migrate the current SAP Content server to the new server with Windows 2003 64-bit. I'm trying to have minimum downtime for this.
I have got reply from SAP Support Consultant on my OSS Message (4550 / 2010 ) ..similiar with option#1 from your advice.
Thanks and regards,
Hery

Hello,
try using x86_32 DVD for 7.6
I do not think it is good idea to upgraade 32bit software with 64 bit soft.

Hello Hery,
1. Please let us know more details about your project.
I see two options in your case, if you donu2019t want to upgrade the source MAXDB to 7.6 version yet,
In case the source MAXD is the production it have sense:
A) ** Use the Windows 32 bit as target database server,
install SAPDB 7.3.00.35 on Windows 32bit server, then performed Homogeneous Copy from the source SAPDB 7.3.00.35 (on Windows 2000 server). SAP notes 962019 & 129352.
Run the MAXDB upgrade to 7.6 on the new source Windows 32bit server
Install the content server on Windows Server 2003 x64 < target server > with MAXDB 7.6 version.
Perform Homogeneous Copy from the new source Windows 32bit server to target Server 2003 x64,
SAP notes 962019 & 129352.
B) ** Install the content server on Windows Server 2003 x64 < target server >
Heterogeneous system copy - SAP Note No. 962019
Please review SAP Note No. 960769 & pay attention to MAXDB section.
2. You wrote that you already created the SAP ticket to get the SAP support.
To avoid any further misleading information, please follow the SAP ticket.
What is the ticket number?
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina
Hello Hery,
1. Please post the output of the commands:
sdbregview u2013l
sdbuninst u2013l
dbmcli u2013s dbm_version
dbmcli u2013s dbm_getpath IndepDataPath
What CD number are you using for the database update?
Please review the SAP Note No. 793550.
2. Please check if the solution from SAP Note No. 1329808 will work for you.
3. Did you create the SAP ticket, where this issue was reported?
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

Hi Natalia,
Thanks for your reply,
Checking your suggestion:
1. I'm using CD "MAXDB 7.6 .03 Build 09 RDBMS Number 51033492" for MAXDB_WINDOWS_X86_64 ..
OS server is Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition Service Pack 2
result of sdbregview u2013l :
cannot load lib \..\install\sdbrun.dll
result of sdbuninst u2013l
cannot load lib \..\install\sdbrun.dll
result of dbmcli -s dbm_version :
OK
VERSION = 7.3.0
BUILD = DBMServer 7.3.0 Build 035-000-090-084
OS = WIN32
INSTROOT = c:\sapdb\sdb\db
LOGON = True
CODE = ASCII
SWAP = full
UNICODE = YES
INSTANCE = (unknown)
SYSNAME = Windows
result of dbmcli -s dbm_getpath IndepDataPath
OK
c:\sapdb\data
2. Checking SAP note 1329808, being told "The requested SAP Note is either in reworking or is released internally only "
3. I have created OSS message on this and the SAP support guy is asking to login to our system.. as this is new server, will take time to get internal approval for opening remote connection on this.
Thanks and regards,
Hery
