What is the difference between the item proposal and material determination product proposal?

Hi,

1. Item proposal and Product proposal both are the same used to create List of Items for a particular customer by using

Tcode: va51

Ex: You have a customer who busys Your products regularly on a daily basis or monthly basis so to avoid data entry work your creating item proposal against that particular customer when ever your placing sales order agaiinst that customer by using item proposal it will become easy for to enter the Line items in order.

After creating item proposal by using tcode VA51 you will get no. you have to assign the no in Customer Master Salve view.

2. Material Determination is based on material Codes - Tcode: VB11

With material determination, the material entered is replaced automatically by the material found during document creation. This material determination is dependent on the sales document and can, for example, be used in a promotion when a product is only to be sold with special packaging. During order processing, the system can then automatically exchange the material with the normal packaging for the material with the special packaging for a given period of time

Dear KM,

You have already got a good explanation for difference between Item Proposal and Material Determination by three experts above..

The only thing I would like to add here for further understanding is that:

Item Proposal is dependent on Customer Code while Material Determination is dependent on Material Code.

This means that in Item Proposal list of Items is proposed the moment you enter Customer Code in Sales Order & in Material Determination, materials are swaped or proposed to be swaped only after you enter Material Code in Sales Order.

Hi,

An item proposal is a list of materials and order quantities that can be copied into the sales order.

Items can also be selected from a list and copied into a sales order.

Item proposal or product proposal are same.

"VA51" is used to create the item proposals.

"VA55" is the T.Code which is used for the number of proposals for a given material.

After creating the proposal in "VA51",click on Edit>addiitonal functions>Propose items or press (Ctrl+F11).

Enter the proposal document number.

Here if you want with quantity then click on "Default quantity" else click on "without quantity".

Coming to material determination,it uses the condition technique to swap one material for another when certain conditions apply.

Material determination is triggered by the material entered in the line item of the sales order.

Material Determination

When you create documents, material determination enables you to find certain materials automatically using a key already stored in the system rather than using the material number. You do not need to create a material master record for the key entered in the SD document and which you use to find a material. The assignment of materials is carried out in master records for material determination. Here, various keys can be stored for the same material in the system. The key entered can, for example, be a customer-specific material number .

With material determination, the material entered is replaced automatically by the material found during document creation. This material determination is dependent on the sales document and can, for example, be used in a promotion when a product is only to be sold with special packaging. During order processing, the system can then automatically exchange the material with the normal packaging for the material with the special packaging for a given period of time.

Item Proposal

Item proposals are stored independently of customers. If a customer frequently buys the same product pallet, you can specify the item proposal number in the customer master record.

The materials of an item proposal can be proposed by the SAP System as an entry tool during order processing. You can then:

Copy the materials as they are

Change the specifications and only copy some materials or partial quantity

Requirements - You can only include the products in a product proposal for which you created a material master record.

We use VA51 to create the item proposal. Here we get a number.This number is then linked to the customer master data in the sales view. This is very commonly used.

Material determination is very closely related to item proposal /product proposal and is used to swap one material for another in the sales order using the condition technique. I have not seen Material determination procedures used in the projects I have worked.

Item proposal is same as product proposal & SAP uses the two terms interchangeably.

An item proposal is a list of materials and order quantities that can be copied into the sales order. Items can also be selected from a list and copied into a sales order.

1) Use transaction [VOV8] to configure the document type ("MS" for product proposal).

2) Use transaction [VA51] to create a proposal.

3) Enter the item proposal on the sales area data (sales tab) of the customer master record.

4) In [VA01] to create a sales order, Select Edit & propose items."

Material determination:

"Material determination uses the condition technique to swap one material for another when certain conditions apply. Material

determination is triggered by the material entered in the line item of the sales order.

Use transaction [VB11] to create a material determination condition record. And [OV12] for configuration of material determination.

Material determination is useful when old product is becoming obsolete or a new product is released by the company at specific date."
