Hi experts,

Why sales orders can be created if division in material master is set as blank?

Background:

sales order type A for division 10

sales order type B for division 20

Division in material master for material 123 is set as blank.

Q: Why sales orders for material 123 can be created, no matter which order type?

Hope following will clear your doubts regarding division

First of all Material can only be assigned in one division in material master.

Second your doubts sales order. sales order can be created by the material which dont have assigned division in material master.

when you create sales order then in header (intial screen) you have to give sales Area (mendatory). Afterword if system don't find any division of material master then system automatically purpose header division to item division (T-code VOV8 = check item division)

Why System behaving it : actually division represent product line, Take a scenario where you need to sell different product line in one sales order ?? here system will find the different division different products. so system will allow here to use header division instead item division therefore if in material master don't have divison then also system will allow you to create sales order by copying header division

First of all, I doubt whether it could be possible to create a material master without maintaining a Division which would be a mandatory field and without maintaining these, one cannot save !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi the experts,

First of all, many thanks for all your advice. However, I still have doubt.

To obtain more advice from you, I'd like to provide more background.

Some products, say material 123, are classified as office stationery in material master. No division is set in material master as no selling is needed.

Later, the client require to sell them because they're promotion material, say brochure, & still consider them as office stationery. U know, this client sells mobilephones & the relevant spares.

During testing, I found out material that has NOT maintained division in material master CAN be created against every division. If only considering the system logic, how can header division propose to item division when creating orders?

"Item division" is checked in the document types. According to the system explanation for that, "If you mark this field, the system proposes the division from the material master record of the item". It seems the current system behavior conflicts with that. U know, the division is set as blank in material master currently. Suppose no divison can be confimed, i.e. sales orders cannot be saved.

Go to VOV8 for your order and in General control

look for CHECK DIVISION

Hi,

For creating customer master we need devision, it means that this cutomer purchase goods from us by this sales area.

where as we create material master for sales organization & distribution channel and speciefy division in materal master,

If you want to restrict it then in VOV8 >>> Your order type >>> Details >>> select check division & tick mark to item divisions.

Note : Even of we use division in sales & distribution,but it can be dfined under logistic genral.

Hi

You can create sales order with only one order type for mulyiple division maintained in the material master

But for the above you need to create a common division and assigned to the m,aterial divisions.

Common division can be maintained for the customer to minimize the effort of entering and managing the data.
