Hi All,

I have a question regarding the advantages or benefits of system restart/bounce. Does this increase system performance? How?

Thank you all and Happy Holidays!

You will not help to increase performance by restarting/bouncing. Rather performance will be degraded for sometime until buffers are filled back. Think from SAP memory management perspective and you will understand more regarding buffers.

I would refrain from restarting the servers unless it is necessary to do so.

Hi

If you are carrying on regular system monitoring activities and concentraing on unwanted areas, there is no necessity for restarting. Regular monitoring and remedial measures will be okay not necessarily reboot the servers often.

Hi,

As mentioned earlier the system performance after a restart would be slow to start with and then return to normal.

The restart/reboot should be done as a last resort to fix orphaned memory, memory leakages.

The systems are designed to work efficiently without any outages but hardware, OS problems and sap process do occasionally hold on to the resources such as memory or cpu and at this point you should plan for restart first and then a reboot if necessary.

Cheers Sam

Ususally you will not have any potential advantange in terms of performance of SAP system after bouncing .Because once after the system restart all the various buffers will be flushed,as a result once after the restart every time for executing SQL query will be a fresh request to DB through DB interface.
