64-bit MAXDB 7.6 backup causes incredibly slow SAP performance

Hello all,

I have 14 servers running MAXDB 7.6.00.22 on SLES9-SP3. All machines are EM64T platforms and all are running Netweaver 2004S.

When a MAXDB backup is running ( either scheduled through DB13 or done through DBMGUI, it does not make a difference ) the SAP becomes essentially unusable. Very, Very slow.

I am personally convinced that there is/must be something I can do to MAXDB to reduce the performance hit the machines take. Some machines are very big configs and they still take a hit.

Anyone has any ideas.?

Hello Anthony,

an online backup really shouldn't be that noticeable. As you're an official SAP customer, I would prefer you to open an message on the SAP Support Portal (formerly OSS) for this issue.

For the analysis, please make sure a Telnet-connection is possible, the problem is reproduceable. It would be great if you'd have a test system where the support can analyze running backups.

Thanks and regards,

Roland
