-In SAP-PM,

1.Functional Location - You can define Functional location based on Location wise, process wise and spatial requirement

Eg. In Manufacturing company, Following can be consisder as Functional location

Workshop, QA/QC Laboratory,Fire station etc (Location wise)

Assembly line,Utility plant,Painting unit,Dismantle unit etc. (Process wise)

Corporate office,Learning center etc. (Spatial Requirement)

2. Inspection Point - It is used for doing result recording purpose in calibration process. It indicate result recording is for Equipment or Functional location. In system inspection point 300 used for equipmen and 310 used for Functional location.

3. Maintenance plan - If you want to do periodic maintenance on any object with predefined operation list, main plan required to create. It is basically combination of object (Equipment or functional location) under periodic main. + acivities/operation need to performed durning maintenance + Frequency of main.+ Strateggy of main. (Time based/Key date based).

4.Maintenance item - It is the basic step to create maint plan - It combines opeartions (Task list) + Object to be consider (Equipment/Functional location). Without creating any main item if you createmain plan system automatically create maint. item in background and assigned with plan Each maint plan always have atleast one maint item all the time.

Dear Rahul,

Thanks for reply.

I have created Functional location. While assign the same to an equipment, it asks for 'counter' as mandatory. Is it required for PM process. If yes, can you pls define, how to create, why is required?

Advance thanks!!!!!!

counter is not mandatory......for installation/dismatling Equipment on functional location.

Actually counter is used to measure certain - parameters like eq. Run hour etc.

Counter can be created by using Tcode IK01 selecting check box 'Measurement point is counter"

For counter you have to give some additional parameters - 1,counter overhead reading - means reading on which counter get reset eq. in case vehicle speedometer - whenever distance rich 99 km it reset so 99 is overhead reading

2.Annual estimate - annual estimate for the counter eq. vehicle will run 3650 km in a year (Estimation). based on this information system calculate the reading for each day like 3650/365 = 10 km per day and will determine date in planning based on cycle set means on what date vehicle will complete 500km and like that

Hope this will help you.

hi,

i think you are clear now about some concepts in pm. regarding maintenence item its a mandatory one for a maintanence plan.(b'coz your maintenance plan implemented on maintenance item).you have multiple main.item in a plan.

Inspection Point: With in a same inspection lot, you can record mutiple equipments(300)/ fumctloc(310)

Func. Location: Its a PM spatial technical object (e.g Lab, Work shop)

Maintenance Plan: Collection of maintenance activity/ activities of equip/ fun. locations.

Maintenance Item: Maint. plan may contain multiple maintenance item

Inspection points

In simple terms Inspection points are used when you want to do result recording of for same set of char multiple times depending upon the shift, event, time, container or operator.

Maintenance plan:

In simple terms Maintenance plan are used when you want to carry out the maintenece activity of a equipment or storage location. In maintainace plan you can define the frequency & start of cyale date along with the task list of maint equipemnt.

Maintenance item (is it required or maintenance plan is alone enough)

Yes maint plan alon is enough.Actually maint plan can contain multiple items which are to be maintained may be having same frequency of maintainance.

I hope this will give you some idea.
