Quick question: Is there a command to run at the OS-level to determine which version/level of SAPCAR is installed?
We have SAP Enterprise 4.7 x110 with kernel 6.20 that we need to upgrade to kernel 6.40 and then upgrade the OS from V5R3 to V6.1.
Thanks,
Robert
Hi,
Can you run SAPCAR -V by logging on with user <sid>adm and then issue a "call qp2term"?
BR.

Thanks, Jennifer, but that didn't work. Remember, we are at a very old kernel level and an old SAP version.
Here is the result:
$
> sapcar -v
/QOpenSys/usr/bin/-sh: sapcar: not found.
$
As an aside, I ran the SAPCAR command from a command line and the last two lines read:
SAPCAR, release 620, build (build # not defined)
Press ENTER to end terminal session.
So, I guess I'm stuck using a Windows version like Volker suggested.
Thanks, anyway,
Robert
In order to upgrade to the 6.40 kernel, we must upgrade the 6.20 kernel.
In order to upgrade the 6.20 kernel, we must upgrade SPAM/SAINT.
In order to upgrade SPAM/SAINT, we must upgrade TP and R3trans.
In order to upgrade TP and R3Trans, we must have a working version of SAPCAR.
Is there a command to run at the OS level to determine the current version of SAPCAR?
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Bob,
I do not know where this information comes from - but it is at least not useful to do it that way ... I would say, you need a bit consulting and then all the issues were solved.
If you just want to decompress .CAR or .SAR files, you can do that with a windows sapcar and just push the 2 files to EPS/in ...

Hi Bob,
I didn't work with 6.20 kernel "for ages" ... what I do have in mind, that it is not available there - but in my mind, there is no sense to know that anyway.
You need to install a new 6.40 kernel and then apply that one and take care of a few more things - as I described to you a few years ago.
Then it just runs - independent of the VERY old 6.20 or the SAPCAR in there ...

easy:
SAPCAR -V
This works on Unix and on Windows. Am unsure about exact syntax for AIX.
