New install vs System copy

Wanted to know we have a XI box and want to do migration to PI 7 on a different box.

Will we need to do a new install or a System copy would do?

Hi, you can make a new installation in the new box, then you can export and import all the objects from XI to PI, this is the faster way to do that.

I guess it is like regular export and import like we do from dev to QA -> prod

or is there something special involved since we need to move from XI to PI 7.1

Yes, is the same. you must import and export all objects, form SLD, IR and ID.

Are u doing a new PI7.1 Installation & migrating ur content from PI7.0 to this system. You need to Export-> Import your content.

OR

You made a copy of PI7.0 & upgrading this system to PI7.1.?? No Export Import Required. The Interfaces will be PI7.1 compatible. No need to do any other work like Export/Import

Hey.. we have XI 3.0 box and we have done XI scenarios.

We will have a different box where PI 7.1 installation is required and we need to move all the XI objects from old box to this new box where we will have PI 7.1 installed.

My question is since PI 7.1 is totally diff concept, will anything special need to be considered?
