Changing Oracle Home

Hello,

I just installed a Netweaver 7 Java system (Windows+Oracle) - Sid = MJD

On the same server we have another SAP system - EBQ

After installation of MJD I realized that the Oracle home for it is set to D:\Oracle\EBQ\102.

I forgot to change the default Oracle home that the installation took

I had installed a new Oracle home prioir to installation - D:\Oracle\MJD\102

Can I now change the Oracle Home of MJD to D:\Oracle\MJD\102?

Is that possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gautam,

I think each instance will have its own users and corresponding environment variables.

So you will have two Oracle homes which will not interfere with each other.

Isnt it so ??

Cheers.....,

even if this is not supported as per Markus, you can try to:

change ORACLE_HOME for user mjdadm

check registry in keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE

also check SAP profiles for instance MJD.

change path to service OracleServiceMJD

That may technically work - with the slight problem that oraInventory doesn't know anything about that PATH and hence patching in the future will fail.

How about this -

If I uninstall the new system - MJD, along with database, would it affect the original system EBQ's database files?

(Since they both have the same Oracle_Home now.)

I checked few files like - tnsnames.ora and listener.ora

Oracle has made copies of previous version of these files (tnsnames.ora.1 and listener.ora.1).

So when I uninstall will everything go back to normal in the EBQ oracle_home?

If it is safe, I think this is the best option.

Please advise.

Why shouldn't it ?

He just said he forgot to specify the correct ORACLE_HOME during the installation.

He did not said he did not install a seperate ORACLE-Software beforehand.

So as far as I understand, he has two OracleHomes and Two DBs, just the second

SAPINST did run with the first ORACLE_HOME as installation parameter.

So this should only be Environment stuff I think, as long as he did not have

10.2.0.4 in the first and 10.2.0.2 in the second ORACLE_HOME.

Ok - you're right - I misunderstood that. Apologize.

if you uninstall MJD, it will not affect EBD

as for the safest solution, I already gave you an answer:

change ORACLE_HOME for user mjdadm

check registry in keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE

also check SAP profiles for instance MJD.

change path to service OracleServiceMJD

you also need to change listener.ora and tnsnames.ora.

Not in an easy way, ORACLE_HOME is referenced in the registry profiles and in the environment. The easiest way would be to do a system copy.

It's not supported to run two Oracle database with the same ORACLE_HOME.
