Hi Sagar,

no problem

Check at OS level '\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\profile\' to find in which profile parameter is set

general there will be 3 profiles, DEFAULT, <sid>DVEBMGS00_<HOSTNAME>; START_DVEBMGS00_<HOSTNAME>

So in each these profiles instance profile (i.e <SID>DVE....<HOSTNAME>

You need to change rdisp/wp_no_dia parameter.

go ahead add change the diaglog work process parameter value to 10 and then follow my instruction above.

Ok..

So can i add some virtual memory.

Or the only way out is increasing the physical memory.

Sagar

Hi,

you definitely need to increase physical memory...

For an ABAP IDES system with 10 concurrent users 3GB should be enough memory....

em/initial_size_MB 400

Raise that to at least 1024 or 2048 and make sure you have plenty of swap space... 4 times the amount of the RAM..

As long as you don't expect the system to fly it should be fine... Let me know how it goes...

for physical memory you can check at OS level aslo.

If you are using Windows then ....on desktop right mouse click on 'My Computer' Icon and select properties

Hi

Where can I get the physical memory?

You have already gave us your main memory.

I have already advised it is not enough.....3GB is not enough

If you are running 32bit windows you can only go 8GB with the physical switch in the boot.ini but can be tempermental.

Hopefully you are running 64bit.....add more memory at leat go to 8GB...this will help you system

How to rewards the SDN way?

I have used SDN for the first time.

Thanks,

Hi Sagar,

Perhaps you should have gone through the Engagement Process. Anyways i just pasting the content that talks about the rewarding....

Step 4: Thank Others by Giving Points
SDN/BPX has a Contributor Recognition Program. Which in short text means that for each question you have 10 points, which can be given to the person that answers your question. 6 & 2 points should also be given for helpful answers. For every question you later award points for, you in turn receive 1 point for. Please note that you do not need to explain that "points will be awarded". We should all know how the forum works.

@Sekhar, perhaps you should have read the rules yourself,

Do not ask for points - This forum should be firstly about information exchange; points are an incentive and a way of saying thanks.
Asking for points is like asking someone to say "thank you": The only time we do this in real life is when teaching a child good manners. Saying it to an adult is insulting, so why do it in the forums? If someone keeps asking questions without awarding points, simply stop answering them or use the abuse button to report it.

No ,

Only 5 concurrent users.

Sorry I didnt get the question.

Now please suggest.

On an average 10 users .

It is a training server.

Where do you check the server memory?

Sagar.

Former Member

Hi,

Is that 10 concurrent users ? because 7 Dialog processes will not be enough...

Increase it to 15 in RZ10 parameter rdisp/wp_no_dia and restart the system

Memory in ST06 / OS06

Mark

Hi Sagar,

Looks very simple issue.

Just increase your parameter 'rdisp/wp_no_dia' value to 15 or more in your profile

restart SAP

then go to transaction RZ10

Choose Utilities->Import Profiles->Of active servers

This will import the changes profile into your SAP system.

You can check memory either at OS level for full RAM value or SAP to level to understand memory allotted for SAP shares.

I hope this helps you.

Hi Sekhar,

The system is only ABAP.

7 Dailog work processes and 3 background.

OS is windows NT.

Database is SQL server.

It's an IDES server.

Thanks,

Sagar.

SAP Release DB release and level what's the OS ?

Have you one CI or CI +Apps

how many users ?

How big is it.

Are you BASIS ???? because if you are not you need to do courses ASAP

Hi Sekhar,

Thanks for the info.

But the CPU Utilization is only 1%.

Also in ST06 there are many swaps in red alert . Is this the cause of the problem.

Please give me a detailed explanation.

I have not used these transactions before.

So let me know how to solve the problem.

I have been asked to do performance tuning for the server.

Thanks,

Sagar.

Hi Sagar,

1. What's your system - Is it only ABAP?

Is it R/3, Netweaver or Business Suite?

2. How much RAM do you have in your system?

3. How many work process (Dialog, Background, Spool, Update 1, 2; etc) are defined?

4. On average how many users are expected to logon?

5. What's the database type (SQL or Oracle)?

6. OS type

Sagar - all these items require to real understand your system and also the profile parameters (especial memory specific) rquired to give you back suggestion.

Sekhar

Hi Sagar,

There are many aspect that contributes for Systems performance as a whole.

Try to have a look at OS response time : ST06 : look at CPU, Memory, Swap, Disk and Lan response time.

Try to have a look at buffer quality : ST02, if many fields are red, investigate each fields dependant parameters.

Try to have a look at DB response time : ST04N, databuffer quality (SGA zone), how much physical reads / logical reads Ratio, wait times, number of user calls, Shared Pool cache hit ratio should be >96%, Sort usage, Redo logging

At glance, you may please check below items first

1. SM66 - To get the glance view of what are diff. activities accupaid diff. work process

2. CPU utilization - ST06.

3. Check are there any free work process & also check the already occupaid work process status

4. SM13 - Check if you have any lockes (the more the lock the more the performance bottleneck)

5. Lastly but not least....I presume your system is scaled enough to support your requirements If not you may need scale out the landscape (but this will be my last choice)

I hope these steps help in isolating the issue and Please report back if issue persists.

Regards

Sekhar
