SAP GUI error

Former Member

Hi Experts!

I received an error while trying to logon to SAP:

Windows GUI 640 Exception 0xC0000005 with ID=0x59E29A7D/0x5831A564 occurred (PL=16) .

I search the Notes for this error and could not find anything on it. Please advise me on why this happened and what does this mean? Thanks in advance!

Any suggestions are mostly welcome.

Ensure you are installing the SAP GUI with its latest patch.

Hello,

Please consider following SAP Note :

Note 147519 - Maintenance strategy / deadlines 'SAP GUI'

It states :

Please note that SAP GUI for Windows 6.40 is out of maintenance since 14th of October 2008. This includes SAP Console 6.40 which is part of SAP GUI for Windows 6.40. Please upgrade to release 7.10 if you are still using 6.40.

This means that there is probably no solution or patch available for your problem (maybe caused by Windows updates).

Only solution is upgrading to a SAPgui version that is still supported.

Good luck and Happy Christmas.

Hi,

As a workaround you may use below syntax if you are using Windows

click 'Start button'->Run-> type sapgui <your hostname> <SAP instance number>

for example, SAP instance number could be '00'

If this works, then I suggest you to completely un-install your SAPGUI (ensure NO corresponding DLLs in registry also), reboot the system (if possible) and re-install.

I hope this helps you.

Hi

You should consider installing SAPGUI 710 as I do not think that 640 is supported anymore by SAP (they do not release any fixes anymore).

SAPGUI 710 is backward compatible with earlier versions of SAP.

Agreed, you should always have the lates SAP Gui software to eliminate errors such as Message Type X (where your gui and backed system dont mactch.
