Hello all,
Do multicubes have any other uses other than for combining two infocubes for reporting purposes
Your help will be very much appreciated
points will be awarded too.
Thanks

hi
you can enable "partitioning" of the data by using separate cubes for separate years of data. This way the cube are more manageable, and with an InfoProvider on top the data can be combined for reports if reqd (instead of having one huge cube with all the data).
Partitioning / Parallel Processing. If you have 5 years of data in 5 InfoCubes, all pulled together into a single MP, when you run a query on the MP for data all 5 years, you have the option of having that query being broken up into 5 DB queries all running currently, or 5 queries running consecutively.
Also using a multiprovider as an 'umbrella' infoprovider, you can easily make changes to underlying InfoProviders with minimum imapct to the queries.
It can insulate your queries from Infocube changes. I could create a MP on top of a single InfoCube. Create all my queries on the MP, then go and change the MP to reference a completely different Infocube, and NOT have to change my queries. Some consultants plug this as a "Best Practice". We use it a lot in our shop.

Hi S.N,
MultiProvider is a type of InfoProvider that combines data from a number of InfoProviders and makes it available for reporting purposes. The MultiProvider does not itself contain any data. Its data comes entirely from the InfoProviders on which it is based. These InfoProviders are connected to one another by a union operation.
Hope this helps..

Hi SN
Multiproviders are an extremely useful object and provide good reporting capability with no extra load to the system, as you do not need to load any data into them.
MultiProvider is great in a number of uses. In the one to one situation it gives you the flexibility to add another InfoCube under the multiprovider (some future development) without impacting the queries, and more importantly the user favourites.
Another use of a multi-provider might be to put it on top of just one InfoProvider. This permits you make changes to the underlying Infoprovider, or even swap it to another InfoProvider without impacting queries.

hi sn,
i like to add one thing on multiprovider apart from reporting is that : if u had a cube with three agg
1 agg
2 agg
3 agg
then when u execute report on cube then that report takes
the value serialy(time consuming)
but if u can use multi on that cube then theses aggr are read parrallely improve performance

Hi,Other than combining the two infocubes, you can also also develop multiprovider by using other objects like ods/master datas...etc. even you can develop multiprovide using master data/ods along with infocubes and use it for the report developement.

A MultiCube is a virtual cube that does not exist physically .Using the BW MultiCube functionality we can use a space-saving, better performing and more transparent approach.

HI,
They are called MultiProviders. They can be viewed as a gamut of data from diff sectors. Instead loading same data which varies a little and meets the reporting requirements, its bettr to go for a multiprovider which will enable you to report properly. Apart from that you can build a multiprovider not only on 2 cubes but also a combination of infoobject, ODS and cubes also...I hope this will help you.

Hi,
MultiProviders offer many advantages, for example you can change the connected InfoCubes and keep all your queries.
