Hi
I have made this conclusion based on the experience listed below. Please tell me if I am wrong.
I have tried many different barcode technologies since I first implemented JetCAPS bardimm in an SAP R/3 context. (more than 10 years ago).
And it is also many years ago that i started recommending NOT to use the JetCAPS hardware solution, because it is not flexible enough and therefore to expensive when it comes to maintenance
- when your printer breaks down or you want to upgrade to another printer model or the user moves to another office, but still wants to print barcodes and so on.
Another argument against the JetCAPS solution is that SAP has had a build in solution for years now. This is a simple limited solution that only supports a few barcode types and only in SSF (smartforms), but its free and its very flexible when it comes to printer support - it can even generate usable barcodes in generated PDF documents.
If the 5 build in barcode types is not enough you could consider to use the rbarc+ solution, that like SAPs build in solution generates the barcodes as graphic and therefore is also very flexible.
But I still occasionally meets customers who still to uses JetCAPS bardimm.
Now the new development is that if you want to print in a unicode system you maybe also wants to print many different languages like Russian, Chinese, English or Danish - that is after all why we have unicode.
The SAP solution for this is cascading fonts and the use of SAPSprint and device types like SWINCF. But it seems that the cascading fonts device types does not support the JetCAPS solution.
The build in solution for barcodes is stille supported, and a newer solution that I have not tried yet is also available. This is the barcode.dll solution and you can read about it in OSS note 14561 or here in SAP documentation:

So are my conclusion correct?
Best regards
