I guess this is happenign because your auto extend is ON and BRTOOLS is calculating space if all the datafiles reach their maximum limit.

Suppose you have 20 GB space , 3 datafiles , and out of that only 10 GB is in use., But the maximum size of a particular file is 6 GB. Then actually you have 20 - 3X6=2 GB free. So if you want to create a datafile with 1 GB initial space, 3 GB maximum size and auto extend on, BRTOOLS will not allow you to do that.

If you have auto extend on then why do you want to add datafile? Is it for learning purpose?

Anyway, if you want that only , then there are two solutions.

1. Select another drive where you have sufficient space.

2. Caculate the the maximum usage size of J drive when all the existing datafile will attain their respective maximum size.

Suppose you have datafile1 , 2 and 3 with maximum size 4,5,6 GB respectively. Then when these file will attain their maximum size , total usage will be 456=15 GB. Now , if you have 20 GB space in J drive, then you can add one data file with maximum size 5 GB, if you try to create with more size , it will throw error.

Tell me one more thing , did you change the autoextend recently for any files?

no i did not change auto extended mode...

is it be ok if i will create new drive K:

on my hard disk as i am having unpartion space there and add new data file there .....

for that what will be the procedure.....

if i create new drive K then i have to create K:\oracle\MRP\sapdata5 manually...then run look for brtools or what...

Treat me fresher for that....

If you enter in the string value for datafile something like 'K:\oracle\MRP\sapdata2\SR3_21\sr3.data21' , then BRTOOLS automatically will create those folders in OS level and update the information in control file.

Go ahead... Best of Luck
