Errors while data loading...!!!

Former Member

Hi BW Experts,

How is it possible to correct errors in PSA. Even if it is corrected, what happens when in future full update is needed to be done. Does correcting error data at PSA means to correct it in the source system also, say like a flatfile.

Please shed as much light as possible on this topic for me.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Gifted Brain,

In that case, as a BW consultant, you cant do much about it. The reason is, you may not be aware from where the data in the oracle or sybase or flat file is created and you wont be aware of the business processes that create records there.

Discussions needs to be done with the team that is responsible for creating the flat files, to check and arrive at a solution.

Hope this helps.

Brain,

You should know where the data is lying in the Source System. we shouldn't not change the data in the source system.

Suppose let us take one example, we have one extract in the SAP, which delivering CSV file. If there is any ',' in the output before moving to CSV, automatically next coloumn will be called.

let take while creating Sales Order, user entered PO number as 'FGH123465,0010'. Then in the output file i could see 2 coloumns instead of 1 coloumn for PO number... one with FGH123465 next with '0010'. This is User mistake. they don't know about this ','. We need to ask the user to change the value. We need to instruct them not to give ',' for the above case.

Developer shouldn't change any business data in source system. If every body approves, we can do that. That varies from company to company. depends on authorizations. i don't have authorization to VA01 and VA02 to change the Sales Orders.

All the best.

Hi Giftedbrain

It's possible to Correct the data in PSA, But if you wna tto correct the data the request should be deleted from the data target(ods or Cube), if the request is there , it will not allow you to edit the data...

if your doing the full update the data in the cube or ods will be overwritten..

Yes.if the error is in flat file you can correct the data in the flatfile and reload the data..

Generally if you have less no of errors then we can edit in the PSA.It is not feasible to correct the huge no of errors in PSA ..it is better to correct in the source itself..

Hope the above helps..

Hi Shu Moh,

Could you please elaborate on how data is corrected in the source system. Is it handled by someone (a specialist) or do we have to do it. In that case, if the source system is other than FlatFile, say Oracle, and the BW person doesn't know Oracle, what would be the scenario.

Are there any special techniques to be followed when correcting huge amount of error data...???

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

Correcting data in PSA does not correct the data in the source system.

To correct the errors in PSA, you need to delete that request from the cube and then only the PSA becomes editable for that request. Now, you can select the records you want to correct and edit it and save and then right click the PSA and ->"update data target manually"

Gifted Brain,

correcting the data in PSA means , correcting the data AFTER it has come into BW , the staging area , and it does not affect the data in the source system.

When you correct the data , when you do a full update later on , the same error will occur , however , if it is because of things like restricted characters , capitals etc , it can be overcome by suitable settings.
