Import Language Supplementation vs Support packs...

Former Member

Hi,

We have NW04s SPS19

What is the difference between "language supplementation" and "implementation of Support Packages for language".

I have read the notes 352941, 1156507 , and 195442 but fundamental difference is still not very clear.

I also want to know when supplementation needed and when is SP for language is needed. We have French and SP for French is old.

I know that it can be done using SMLT.

Your prompt responce will be greatly appreciated.

Regards SC

with a language supplementation you 'fill' the gaps in the language

2 language are installed when installing: DE en EN

you have installed FR

You can supplement FR with EN ( don't supplement DE, that's already standard if you miss data in FR and EN)

after supplementation, when you miss something in frech for example monsieur (FR) , the system will display it in english: Mister(EN) and if that is also missing: HERR (DE)

Is this part clear?

It is very clear after reading your remarks.

Thank you.

So now I have one new question and one old question.

Old Question -

How will I know that language supplementation is needed or Suport Package is needed?

New Question -

What is the difference between the "Importing SPs for Language" and "Importing Language contect from the SPs"? Are they same? I went to SMLT - Special Action - Import Support Package. How this option is different from menu option SMLT - Import Package.

Please clarify.

I will appreciate your help.

old question :, sorry for not being clear:

supplment is always optional, you don't have to suplement. its a choice. do you want your French user to get an english term or a german term if its not available in french?

Altough smlt clearly says that

"Do not copy the clients from client 000 until you have imported all the languages you need into client 000."

it might happen that a client is requesting a extra language "after" the initial setup.

Day one: you install a clean system and upgrade to SP12 from SP10 ( example) day 365 ( one year later) they buy another company in france and they also want FR in the system... Problem ! system is already installed.

Now you will have to install the language FR and "Importing Language content from the SPs" ... ( and run program RSTLAN_IMPORT_CLIENTS .. )

Importing Language content from the SPs -> only if you install the language later.

Thank you for the explanation.

Links were evry help full.

So can isay that Import Language means new language and import support packs for lnaguage means something for existing language.

Supplimenting the language is an optional.

Please verify.

Yes, you got it correctly. However, I suggest to do language supplementation (after importing language part of support packages) either with English or German language.

Never supplement with DE, cause that's already the last resourt!

If you have language FR , supplemented with EN, and its still missing, it will show german.

If you have language FR , not supplemente it wil also show german.
