Netweaver definition

I have a confusion between netweaver and ECC6.0.are both same,if yes when we install ECC6.0 it implies that we installed netweaver right. we no need to install netweaver(EP,XI,...etc)separately right.all gets installed when we install ECC6.0.please provide me necessary information to come out of this confusion.

Hi Ravi,

In a nutshell:

SAP NetWeaver is the underlying technology platform for the Business Suite applications. That is, if you install ERP (or CRM, SCM, etc.) NetWeaver will be underneath. Back in the old days, we called this the Basis layer (but it is much more than just Basis, now).

SAP NetWeaver can also be installed as a stand alone platform (i.e. with no Business Suite application) for capabilities such as the Portal, PI, BW, etc.

This question has been asked and answered many times on SDN, so I suggest doing a search.
