Are there an restrictions on UNIX group gid number to use

Hello,

Are there an restrictions on UNIX group gid number to use for SAP NetWeaver or SAP Business suite installation?

Example, the install guides for NetWeaver 7.x installation covers a section "Creating Operating system users" and "Creating Solaris Groups and Users". Is there any restriction on what the gid should be given to sapsys, oper, dba or sapinst groups?

Also, if we decide to change a gid for dba user to something else due to LDAP conflicts. Are there any recommendations whether it is safe to do the gid change? In LDAP the group dba gid is 50 but on SAP servers the group dba is 200. We have to locally set the gid in /etc/group file on the server to bypass LDAP setting. Can we change the gid id for SAP systems to match with LDAP gid for the dba group? What challenges if any are faced?

Regards,

Asif

If you change the GID then you need to change all ownership of all files who have that group.
