I have the LOCAL_LISTENER parameter commented out in the init<SID>.ora profile. What is the LOCAL_LISTENER parameter used for? Are there any side effects if it is commented out?

Thanks.

Hello Jamal,

you will also need the parameter LOCAL_LISTENER, if want to use automatic registration and your listener is running on port 1521 but not on the ip address of the hostname. This is a common configuration in a HA environment.

Hi Jamal,

If you have a DEDICATED server config, then the LOCAL_LISTENER parameter is used for the instance registration with the listener. If you are using a default listener on port of 1521, then DBCA will not automatically set the LOCAL_LISTENER.

For more details please see the links below -

Hi Jamal,

LOCAL_LISTENER is used to register the listener that is not on the default port (1521).

If you are using a default listener, you can let it commented.
