You have to look at the nomination types from the business perspective.
What is you business? Are you responsible for executing the logistics (by definition a Carrier)? Do you own the stock in-transit?
If yes, then Carrier Nomination is what you need. This will allow you to execute your logistics (post SD/MM-IM documents ).
If you are not responsible for executing the logistics, but are still interested in recording the inventories that are moving around, you can use Customer nominations. i.e. Nominations that have been created outside your logistics execution, but you need to keep a record. These nominations generally donot post any SD/MM/MM-IM documents.
