HI,
My question is about backup retention period. Currently we are doing the full online database backup + log for every Monday till Friday. And the backup media is disk. My problem here is I don't know where to set the retention period for our backup. Actually we want to keep the backup for 14 days.
So if anyone here know how to set the retention period so that after 14 days it will overwrite the 1st day backup.
I went to init<SID>.sap and found below setting:
retention period in days for brarchive log files
default: 30
cleanup_brarchive_log = 30
retention period in days for brbackup log files
default: 30
cleanup_brbackup_log = 30
retention period in days for brconnect log files
default: 30
cleanup_brconnect_log = 30
retention period in days for brrestore log files
default: 30
cleanup_brrestore_log = 30
retention period in days for sapdba log files
default: 30
cleanup_sapdba_log = 30
retention period in days for offline redo log files saved on disk
default: 30
cleanup_disk_archive = 30
retention period in days for database file saved on disk
default: 30
cleanup_disk_backup = 30
retention period in days for sapdba export dumps and scripts
default: 30
I just wondering whether I need to choose the "# retention period in days for database file saved on disk
default: 30" since we are doing full database backup and set it to 14. Do I need also to set for offline redo log files backup?
Please help.
Thanks
Dear Quare,
cleanup_sapdba_log = 14
cleanup_disk_archive = 14
you can have a month end backup and offline redo files for longer period or write it to tape to keep it permanently, so that if you require something will be there.

Siv

Dear K.Siva,
Thanks for your answer. It's like that if we choose below:
cleanup_sapdba_log = 14
cleanup_disk_archive = 14
The old backup that longer than 14 days it will be deleted from directory rite?
Correct me if I'm wrong. It's mean that by using this option it's also can
consider overwrite function.
Thanks.
