In the portal i want to post some of the new options on the area...for example when i click on "EMPLOYEE_SEARCH" on the portal area group page...it will display the various services like "WHO's WHO" etcs...similarly we wanted to provide some services..and link them to external links...
Can any one help me..

you have to customize the Homepageframework in the Backend. Go to SPRO / Personnel Management / Employee Self Services / Homepage Framework.
There you can create/copy your own "Resources" / "Services" and add them to "Areas" and "Sub Areas".

Create your own file and make it them as default (i.e, when you access your portal http://<hot>:<port>/ the created page will display.
The file should go here
