indexes in process chain

Hi all,

Can someone tell me when do we have to use delete index and create index in process chain. Do we have to do it when we load in ODS and in cube? The sequence being first delete index then load data and then create index?

Also when does the attribute change run come into picture, I am trying to do this process chain and everytime it pops up with attr change run process variant.?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Raj,

We usually do not Delete and Recreate the indexes with each delta data load becasue it is more effort for the system to do this, rather than just loading the delta records. But it surely makes sense when you are doing a large load (like a full load).

Attribute change run is used in conjunction with master data loads (attributes and Hierarchies). If you have a process chain just for master data, then you can put the Attr chnage run at the end (unless some master data is used in a look up to load another master data).

If you want to turn off this automatic pop up process, in RSPC menu Settings > Default chains > Check mark for Do Not Suggest Process.

Hope this helps...

Bhanu, So we delete and recreate index when we do full load ( but that we would normally do just at the start right). OR can we schedule deleteing and recreating in monthly chain or some thing like that ?

About the change run, So basically for all ATTR we can just make a master data chain and at the end create a attr change run process variant and add all the infoobjects we want to that?

Thanks alot.

It would be like : START > Delete index > load > Recreate index.

About Attr change run: You are correct, but remember that you need this process for hierarchies as well. Also if there is a text load in your chain, it is okay..no harm to the attr change run process.

Hope this helps...
