Hi community,

we're struggeling already a couple of weeks to have a running system combination described obove. Has anybody finished this installation on a 32-bit environment?

Any hints are very welcome.

Cheers, Michael

We can't give you any "hints" unless we know specifically what you are struggling with ?

Also, please bare in mind SLES 10 32bit is not supported for SR3 installations, only SLES 10 64 bit.

Is there any Ides-Installation guide for that specific environment available, something like a step by step guide. It's very frustrating to switch from one guide to another, which are referring to multiple notes.

Our errors and obstacles are the following:

- which one is the right java version (for 64 and 32 bit/ IBM or SUN)

- which is the correct parameter for heap size and how to setup

- permissions for different users and folders

- commands to start and stop the different database and serverjobs

- Linux specific parameters (encryption and/or necessary installpackages)

- for IDES standalone which SLD-environment is recommended

- for IDES which are the best paramaters for HDD (filesystem, capacity for database size)

- the handling of RAW-devices must have or not (documentation is not clear)

- any other Linux-install hints

Thanks for all comments.

Cheers, Michael

Which IDES installation guide are you referring to? And yes, notes need to be read, and yes, there are a lot of them.

On 64bit you need the IBM JDK 1.4.2

> - which is the correct parameter for heap size and how to setup

32bit or 64bit?

> - permissions for different users and folders

You usually don't need to deal with that, it's done by sapinst

> - commands to start and stop the different database and serverjobs

startsap/stopsap

> - Linux specific parameters (encryption and/or necessary installpackages)

Which "Linux" are you using?

> - for IDES standalone which SLD-environment is recommended

Local SLD in that case.

> - for IDES which are the best paramaters for HDD (filesystem, capacity for database size)

This is described in the installation guide.

> - the handling of RAW-devices must have or not (documentation is not clear)

You can use them but you don't need to.

> - any other Linux-install hints

Notes to the two supported LInux distributions is in the installation guide, they also contain necessary packages that need to be installed as well as other information.

Installing a SAP system is not doubleclicking an .exe file and press several times on next and you're done.

If I install a new SAP system/application I usually use two full days to see all the notes and cross references, database notes and OS notes before I even logon to the target system and do something.

Thanks Markus,

here the answers:

- we did not found any specific guide for Ides elsewhere

- we're struggeling with 32-bit stuff, do you know from anybody else running this platform (NW7.0 on Linus SLES 10 with MAXDB)

- some installation steps have aborted, logon e.g. as root, the installation continues

- we are using Linux SLES10 SP2

There is no special installation guide. The installation is not different to a normal ERP installation but the fact, that you need more disk space in the beginning (e. g. Note 1244548 - IDES ERP 6.0 ECC 6.0 SR3)

> - we're struggeling with 32-bit stuff, do you know from anybody else running this platform (NW7.0 on Linus SLES 10 with MAXDB)

We run all our systems on SLES 10 (or SLES 9) with MaxDB (7.6, 7.7) but not on 32bit.

> - some installation steps have aborted, logon e.g. as root, the installation continues

Installations must be done as root.

> - we are using Linux SLES10 SP2

Dear Michael,

Please refer the [Platform Availability Matrix (PAM) of SAP Netweaver 7.0|https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000001303&_EVENT=DISP_NEW&00200682500000002804=01200615320900001250] to get more information.

As per the OS/DB Product Availability Matrix for SAP NetWeaver 7.0, one can have the combination like SAP NW 7.0 with MAX DB 7.6/7.7 on LINUX SLES 10 (x86_64 64bit, IA64 64bit, IA32 32bit, Power 64bit platforms)
